Terrain - GW Garden of Morr (Graveyard)

Here is my GW Garden of Morr. What is nice about this terrain feature is that is good for Warmachine/Hordes, Warhammer/40k, WW2 or any skirmish or regiment style game. For Malifaux, it also is good for the random graveyard terrain that can come up (minimum 3 inch by 3 inch).
So after I bought one and opened it up, I thought that it would look good on the tabletop but might not be enough for a table theme so...
 ...I bought two.
Here is sprue one of what you get. I didn't use the three gravestones in the set. More on what I used them for in a later post.
 Sprue two.
Sprue three.
Here is what they look like primed black (Krylon) with a Warmachine Cygnar Ranger for scale. It spreads out quite nicely with the fence.
First the statue, with Warmachine Cygnar warcaster Hayley. I drybrushed heavily with dollar store dark grey.
Then lightly drybrushed with a dollar store middle tone grey.
Even with just these steps it's looking good.
Then I painted a few stones dark brown then drybrushed lighter brown
I then drybrushed the leaves with a dark dollar store green and discovered that it made excellent moss detail when I made a few mistakes. I then used this for all the graveyard bits. I then lightly drybrushed the leaves with a dollar store light green. The roses were painted GW Scab Red than drybrushed with GW Blood Red. The box art used a dark blue and black for the roses but I find the red pops more and adds contrast.
Here is the main gate for the graveyard. All the fences used the same technique.
Same technique as the statue. Dark Grey.
 Middle Grey.
Light grey on top stones and all over.
Dark brown on some stones and ground then drybrushed with a lighter shade.
Then the leaves, moss and roses.
For the mausoleums the base was done the same as the gate. The main exception was the building itself, which was suggested by a friend. Once painted dark grey, for the drybrushing I used middle grey mixed 50/50 with dollar store dark blue. It really brought out the Gothic look to the structure.
The leaves, moss and roses followed the previously mentioned technique.
The final product I took the pictures on my front lawn area, with some Lilith Malifaux figures.
I also added some flock to bring in some greenery.
It fits very well when separated. I also added some GW Dwarven Bronze to some details as well as lightly drybrushed dollarstore antique white for the skulls and dollarstore brown for the rust.
This project was worked on for about 3-4 weeks of off and on work, which is why this post took so long.
Here is Lilith standing triumphantly at one of the gates.
Here is the terrain arranged for tight quarters or for impassable terrain and there is still pieces left over for more.
I was going to stain everything with a wood stain to add an aged effect but not sure if I'll do it to everything. The stained one is on the right.

Three Card Decks Compared

So Its been a while since I talked about Malifaux and I recently got the Puppet Wars and Fan created deck so I thought I would compare them.

First off the classic deck at $7.
The card art is very cool with this deck. Damage dealt (weak, moderate and severe) on the non-joker cards are clearly marked on the upper right of the cards. Minuses are that it is thin paper stock and not plasticized. This leads to slight tearing after frequent use.
Next is the Puppet Wars deck for $11.
The card art is puppet versions of the various masters in the factions with the Viktorias as the jokers. The cards are plasticized and feel quite sturdy. The bad part is that there is no indication of damage done on the card itself so you would need a cheat sheet (which you need anyways for going through the game mechanics anyways so not a huge bad).[EDIT: A friend pointed out to me in a recent game that there is an indication of mild, moderate and severe damage. This is seen in the pic below with the spotches by the number on the card. Low dot for mild, mid for moderate and high for severe. My bad. I still stand on the last deck, the fan made one. Its easier to see the symbols on the cards too.]

Last but not least is the fan created deck that Malifaux recently started producing, at $12.
The deck itself is gorgeous with a subtle aged look. The face cards and jokers have a classic playing card look and the numbered cards are basic, so not like either of the two previous decks. The damage done is cleverly shown as marks in the upper right of the cards. Seen on the red joker is four marks.
On the other cards is either one, two or three marks for damage dealt.
So if you want card art, go with decks one or two but if you are a gamer who could spend a couple extra bucks, go with the fan done deck.

Reinholdt

Reinholdt is appreciated by ranged casters for Cygnar especially and not so much for Khador (except Karchev). For one point he's a good fit when you can't think of anything. When BTB with a Warcaster he can grant the WC  another ranged attack (very good for Kara Sloan and Siege). or he can add a die to an attack or damage roll but you must discard one. Or allow you to measure from one model to another (handy for setting up one of your models to reach out and squish someone.
After basing him with a spray of Krylon White, then a base of P3 Battlefield Green, drybrushed P3 Traitor Green then lightly drybrushed GW Gretchin Green.
His lips, knuckles and knees were lightly drybrushed with P3 Midlund Flesh. His jacket and satchel was then painted P3 Gun Corps Brown and only the jacket drybrushed P3 Bootstrap Leather.
The satchel and strap were drybrushed with Rucksack Tan. The hat and boots were painted P3 Exile Blue and the shorts painted with GW Red Gore.
The shoes and hat were drybrushed with P3 Cygnar Blue Highlight and the vest was painted in that color. The shorts and some parts of the jacket were lightly drybrushed P3 Menoth White Highlight while the teeth were painted that color. The watch and eyepiece were painted in GW Dwarven Brass. The eyeglass was painted with a dab of P3 Arcane Blue. The model was washed with GW Devlan Mud. The base was painted and flocked as per Kara Sloan.

Warcaster Kara Sloan

My painting has never been display quality. I paint to have it look good at arms length, the distance viewed by your opponent (because any finished handmade product is never good enough for the craftsperson that made it). In this case the young Cygnarian warcaster Kara Sloan has been turned into Phyllis Diller, alas.

The warcaster herself is very solid but you can't let her get in melee with anyone. Her gun is AWESOME being able to shoot 14" away (16" with her cheap spell Fire Group) and is POW 12 with weaponmaster! She benefits from having ranged jacks and units with her. Her feat is a little confusing but there is an errata for it. I barely won in my first game with her and I'm definitely not the best player around.

I did modify the model. Storage and transport of the model, as seen in the Cygnar army book and as she is sculpted, has the gun pointing straight up. I and my friends did not like that so I altered her to have the gun down. Now she fits in a regular slot in my carry case.
Here it is primed with white Krylon spray paint.
I the armour and frount of the skirt was painted with P3 Cygnar Base Blue, drybrushed with P3 Cygnar Blue Highlight and lightly drybrushed with 50/50 P3 Cygnar Blue Highlight and P3 Frostbite. The gunstock, shoulder bags and belt was painted with P3 Bootstrap Leather.
Then the belt and shoulder bags was drybrushed with P3 Gun Corps Brown. The face was painted with P3 Midlund Flesh and drybrushed with GW Elfland Flesh.
The hair was painted P3 Cygnar Yellow and drybrushed with P3 Menoth White Highlight. The skirt was then painted with the P3 Menoth White Highlight. The metal parts were painted with P3 Ironhull Grey.
The metal parts were then drybrushed with P3 Cold Steel. The bronze details were painted in GW Dwarf Bronze. Here is where it went wrong with the face. Arrrggghhh my models faces! I just need to take more time the next face I work on. I painted the lips with GW Blood Red and I was a little ham-fisted with it. Then I tried the eyes for eyeshadow in P3 Exile Blue. I moved on and painted the end of the gun, scope and bullet parts.
Then I used a wash of GW Gryphon Sepia on the hair and GW Devlan Mud on the rest. The base was first painted with P3 Bootstap Leather. Then dollarstore paint was applied and classic GW Modelling Sand was placed on it. Then little dabs of glue applied and GW Static Grass applied. On the side I put some Army Painter Battlefield Meadow Flowers.
