France - Loire day 03 - Chateau Chambourd Outside

Chateau Chambourd was constructed from 1519-1547, under King Francis the first, as a hunting lodge, . Yup. A hunting lodge. He wasn’t even there for two months of accumulated time.
It was never completed as its original design, as you can see how the upper areas at the back stop after one floor, but is still the largest chateau in the valley.
The view out the back is an indication of the extensive grounds that surround the chateau and were used as the hunting grounds.
The chateau differed from traditional castles in that it was for looks and to be imposing to visitors and guests.

The roof is not symmetrical and is slightly eye jarring.
This is the cap structure for the incredible staircase (to be seen in a later post).

This is not the staircase of the castle but still an impressive structure.
