Infinity Cardboard Terrain

A few years ago, when I was getting into Infinity, there was a scenery pack included in a box set (Moto.Tronica) plus I picked up another one in an Arianna large starter box (Navajo Outpost Pack). They provide the same number and sizes of easily put together cardboard buildings and containers, four large and six small. I decided to put together these for extra scenery for multiple miniature game systems.

    Below is a three by three mat with both assembled terrain packs. As you can see it covers an appropriate amount of table area. It just needs some scatter terrain. The only minor quibble I have are that not many metal models should be placed on the top of the larger buildings, but extra cardboard lightly glued inside will reinforce the roof.

    For 32mm models, like the Batman Miniature Game, the size is perfect. Although the look of them are futuristic it still fits, but the smaller containers would work well in a warehouse or dock themed scenario.

    For Battletech: Alpha Strike they can be stacked as buildings and work extremely well for city terrain.

    40mm Marvel Crisis Protocol models also fit well. Same issue as with the Batman game, in that the theme is futuristic. Would work well in an alien world themed table.

    These sets are not sold on the Infinity Corvus Belli's website, but several others are here in particular on page two. A similar assortment, with different art, is the Dawn-02 Aplekton scenery pack for a reasonable price. Two other good sets for the price are the Neon Lotus scenery pack and the Daedalus scenery pack.

Badlands Terrain from GF9

 I picked up some GF9 Badlands terrain boxes recently and am very glad I did. I had plans to build some, but these were already made, prepainted, and solid. Also, even though they are labelled as being for 25-35mm models, I have found they are useful for any scale models from Dystopian Wars/Uncharted Seas 1:1200 scale to Marvel Crisis Protocol 40mm scale (1:43).

Out of the four the company sells, I picked up these three. Here they are with Marvel Crisis Protocol figures...

...Battletech models...

...and Batman Miniature Game models.

I intend on using these in any outdoor scenario or setting as they are very handy and much better then my carved styrofoam "rock" escarpments.

Epicast Tek Archway

 Epicast once made Games Workshop 40k items under license until Forgeworld started in 1998. No idea when this Tek Archway was made but it has been a decade or two since I bought it. Primed black it was painted with cheap gunmetal and silver, then small conduits painted Rhulic Gold and large pipes and knobs painted Pig Iron. Because it has no controls or scale indicators on it, it could be used for just about any miniature game.

Emperor Palapatine Statue

Everybody likes a statue and the Emperor of the Empire is no exception. Came from somewhere at a yard sale and kept it for years with no purpose in mind. Now that I'm painting models for Star Wars Legion, I have a purpose for it. Painted with dollarstore paints.

Downed AT-ST

For Star Wars Legion, the Downed AT-ST expansion. I used a variety of dollar store paints. I also used some Vallejo rust washes and mats for the first time to great effect (they have a lot of different rust paints). I recommend to people that they should paint the bits before gluing as it was a tight fit to get the brush in the nooks and crannies.

Imperial AT-ST

For the Star Wars Legion game is the AT-ST. I do not know what it was painted with before I traded for it but finished it off with various paints dollarstore paints. That's the last of the Imperial units that I have...for now.

74-Z Speeder Bikes

I got to the Empire's 74-Z Speeder Bikes that I had languishing for the Star Wars Legion game. Four were from the starter boxes and two from a box.

 For the firing arcs I used red for the leaders and white from droogs. Also chose a different basing for each pair to tell them apart.

Stormtroopers

With my two Star Wars Legion Basic sets, I had a lot of Stormtroopers to paint. I did an assembly line format using the paints determined in my test run.

 I made each seven trooper squad distinctive with the bases and the squad leader shoulder armour.

Emperor Palpatine Hologram

The Emperor's Hologram was included in some Star Wars toys a decade or so ago. I saw them in Cherry Bomb toys in downtown Victoria for $1 and couldn't resist. I used some light blue drybrushing on it to bring up some highlights.

The scale is perfect as any hologram of the Emperor should be a little bit bigger than the real thing. The hologram could be used for a multitude of things, including statues if painted right.

Plasticraft Large Platform

The Plasticraft Large Platform will be perfect for Star Wars Legion as well as other games requiring a platform. A simple felt covering will change this from future tech to a hill.

The scale is perfect with the 40mm Legion figures. I can also see its use for 10mm gaming as well.

It even has areas that can be used for internal rooms.

Plasticraft Quarantine Zone Outer Walls

The Plasticraft Quarantine Zone - Outer Walls is a neat terrain set that I picked up cheaply over a year ago. It will fit in with many game settings including Malifaux (for which it was designed), Star Wars Legion, and the Batman Miniature Game.

It went together well once I figured things out and looks nice. Multi-level terrain always adds extra fun and tactics in miniature games.

Royal Guard

The Royal Guard are used to defend important models and attack on their own.

Primed black. Painted mix Thamar Black/Skorne Red then drybrushed Skorne Red. The armoured/plastic parts were then lightly drybrushed Khador Red Base. Thamar Black was used on the eye slits and force pike shafts. Cold Steel used on the pistol and pike ends. Gloss was used on the armour/plastic parts.

Base made with Basius 2 Sci-fi plate. Painted dollarstore black, rough drybrush Pig Iron, drybrush Cold Steel, lighty drybrushed Quick Silver. Earth areas painted Umbral Umber, drybrushed Bootstrap Leather, lightly drybrushed Rucksack Tan. Entire models washed with GW Agrax Earthshade.

Imperial Specialists Personnel Expansion - Second Unit

For my second unit of Imperial Specialists, its pretty much the same as the first except...

...I have made a Chiss officer. GW Contrast Apothecary White, dry GW Praxeti White, drybrush Morrow White. Thamar Black on boots and belt. Skin Meridius Blue, drybrush Arcane Blue, light drybrush mix Arcane Blue/Menoth White Highlight. Eyes Skorne Red. Hair Thamar Black and drybrush Coal Black. All else the same.

The droids had a change up of colours. Rhulic Gold on the med droid and Quicksilver on the astromech.

Imperial Specialists Personnel Expansion - First Unit

The Imperial Specialists Personnel Expansion has four handy models, an officer to lead the army and three other models that can be added to units: a communications specialist, medical droid, and astromech droid. All the models were primed black.

The officer was painted Greycoat Grey, drybrushed Cryx Bane Base, lightly drybrushed Cryx Bane Highlight, very light drybrush Trollblood Highlight. Skin painted Khardic Flesh, drybrushed Midlund Flesh, lightly drybrushed Ryn Flesh. Cold Steel applied to the metal objects. Holster painted Bootsrap Leather, drybrushed Rucksack Tan, and lightly drybrushed Sulfur Yellow. Rank painted Khador Red and Cygnar Blue Highlight. Boots, gloves, and belt painted Thamar Black. Hair painted Battlefield Brown and drybrushed Beast Hide.

Comms Specialist painted Thamar Black, cloth drybrushed Greatcoat Grey, lightly drybrushed Cryx Bane Base. Metal parts painted Cold Steel. Skin painted Khardic Flesh, drybrushed Midlund Flesh, lightly drybrushed Ryn Flesh.

Medical Droid painted Thamar Black, drybrushed Greatcoat Grey. Metal parts painted Cold Steel. Trollblood Highlight used on the grey top, middle, and bottom rings. Skorne Red used on eyes.

Astromech Droid painted Thamar Black and drybrushed Greatcoat Grey. Rhulic Gold placed on gold parts. Skorne Red was used on the eye.

The bases were made with Sci-fi Basius plates. Bases painted Pig Iron, drybrushed Cold Steel, and lightly drybrushed Quick Silver. Dirt areas painted Umbral Umber and drybrushed Bootstrap Leather. Parts of the models had gloss applied. Then the entire model was washed with Agrax Earthshade. Ring painted Trollblood Highlight.

General Veers

General Veers was primed black. Painted Greycoat Grey, roughly drybrushed Cryx Bane Base, drybrushed Cryx Bane Highlight, and lightly drybrushed Trollblood Highlight. Skin painted Khardic Flesh, drybrushed Midlund Flesh, lightly drybrushed Ryn Flesh. Armour painted Thamar Black and a gloss painted on top.

 Holster painted Bloodstone, drybrushed Rucksack Tan, lightly drybrushed Sulfur Yellow. Gun painted Thamar Black and lightly highlighted Cold Steel. Rank painted Cygnar Blue and Khador Red Highlight. Metal areas painted Cold Steel. Goggles painted Arcane Blue and streaked with Menoth White Highlight.
