Infinity Cardboard Terrain

A few years ago, when I was getting into Infinity, there was a scenery pack included in a box set (Moto.Tronica) plus I picked up another one in an Arianna large starter box (Navajo Outpost Pack). They provide the same number and sizes of easily put together cardboard buildings and containers, four large and six small. I decided to put together these for extra scenery for multiple miniature game systems.

Below is a three by three mat with both assembled terrain packs. As you can see it covers an appropriate amount of table area. It just needs some scatter terrain. The only minor quibble I have are that not many metal models should be placed on the top of the larger buildings, but extra cardboard lightly glued inside will reinforce the roof.

For 32mm models, like the Batman Miniature Game, the size is perfect. Although the look of them are futuristic it still fits, but the smaller containers would work well in a warehouse or dock themed scenario.

For Battletech: Alpha Strike they can be stacked as buildings and work extremely well for city terrain.

40mm Marvel Crisis Protocol models also fit well. Same issue as with the Batman game, in that the theme is futuristic. Would work well in an alien world themed table.

These sets are not sold on the Infinity Corvus Belli's website, but several others are here in particular on page two. A similar assortment, with different art, is the Dawn-02 Aplekton scenery pack for a reasonable price. Two other good sets for the price are the Neon Lotus scenery pack and the Daedalus scenery pack.

Badlands Terrain from GF9

I picked up some GF9 Badlands terrain boxes recently and am very glad I did. I had plans to build some, but these were already made, prepainted, and solid. Also, even though they are labelled as being for 25-35mm models, I have found they are useful for any scale models from Dystopian Wars/Uncharted Seas 1:1200 scale to Marvel Crisis Protocol 40mm scale (1:43).

Out of the four the company sells, I picked up these three. Here they are with Marvel Crisis Protocol figures...

...Malifaux models...

...Battletech models...

...and Batman Miniature Game models.

I intend on using these in any outdoor scenario or setting as they are very handy and much better then my carved styrofoam "rock" escarpments.

Planetfall - Relthoza - Core Helix

Back in June I determined the paint scheme I would use for my Planetfall Relthoza models, as well as how I would redo my Firestorm Armada models for the same faction (but I will keep the space cloak look I used before). They are 10mm in scale. Here is the first batch of the two Core helixes I have painted and nearly finished them last year but had a few details of them to complete.

Here is the company paint scheme on the back of the box they came in. I got fairly close.

New paint scheme is primed black with rough coat of Folk Art Green Forest.
Dry brush of DecoArt Hunter Green and lighter dry brush of Necrotite Green it accentuate the edges. Then detail of Craftsmart Plum with a light brush of Craftsmart Pink Blossom on the Plum and a highlight of Color Factory Sky Blue on the engine exhaust/weapon/crew systems. I applied Army Painter gloss varnish over the purple organic looking areas of the model to make them look more alive and creepy. Base was painted DecoArt Burnt Umber and drybrushed DecoArt Yellow. Lichen was added to the bases to give that alien world look.

First up are the 32 Jabri drone swarms. There are six variations of bases that were made making a group of them look more imposing and random.

Twelve Namasic light walkers.

Two Varic specialist walkers.

Four Salamas medium walkers.

Two Visith heavy walkers.

Two Yayiss sky pod for transporting the Jabri drone swarms to the battlefield.

It was fun painting them during free time and will continue painting them for the enjoyment of doing so. No idea if I will play the game but I can use them for Horizon Wars. Perhaps can use them in Battletech: Alpha Strike if they come up with a system for creation of home built units.

Planetfall - Relthoza Paint Scheme

I decided to start painting my Relthoza faction for Planetfall, a game from the defunct Spartan Games company. The license is now owned by Warcradle. I can use these models for roleplaying and other miniature games too, like Horizon Wars/Hard War. After I finished the these Namisc Light Walkers with the paint scheme I was quite satisfied by the result, which is close to the studio paint scheme. I also decided I will redo my Firestorm Armada Relthoza ships with this paint scheme too.

Primed black with rough coat of Folk Art Green Forest.

Dry brush of DecoArt Hunter Green and lighter dry brush of DecoArt Citrus Green. Next time I will skip the Citrus Green. Then detail of Craftsmart Plum.

Light brush of Craftsmart Pink Blossom on the Plum and highlight of Color Factory Sky Blue on the engine exhaust/weapon system.

Base painted DecoArt Burnt Umber and drybrushed DecoArt Yellow. Put a little Necrotite Green lightly drybrushed on to brighten the edges, which I will use to replace the step with the Citrus Green above.

Next for this game and faction are the boxes of helixes (groups of units) that were made for this game.

Epicast Tek Archway

Epicast once made Games Workshop 40k items under license until Forgeworld started in 1998. No idea when this Tek Archway was made but it has been a decade or two since I bought it. Primed black it was painted with cheap gunmetal and silver, then small conduits painted Rhulic Gold and large pipes and knobs painted Pig Iron. Because it has no controls or scale indicators on it, it could be used for just about any miniature game.

Planetfall Objectives

For the Spartan Games Planetfall game, I picked up an objective pack online last year. The company went under but the license and IP was purchased by Wayland Games with no date to re-release it. However, the objectives will work very well with my small scale games, as they are 10mm scale. They were painted with various cheap and Privateer Press paints.

As you can see, from left to right, the Horizon Wars/Hard War heavy troopers, Bot War Ageis and Tyranosaur, and Aquan Planetfall models fit with the objectives nicely.

Even More Firestorm Planetfall Terrain

I've made some more purchases of Firestorm Planetfall items and with them came more terrain. They are made for 10mm scale and go together very nicely. Even though they are made of cardboard with plastic frames they hold up together very well. I have been expanding the amount I have over the years here last year and here in 2015.

Here they are with 6mm scale Wizkids Mechwarrior models that I have painted up for use with the Horizon Wars rules.

They also come with these items for utilizing connecting walkways between buildings and adding decorative features to the tops of the buildings.

Here are the buildings with 32mm scale Stormtrooper from the Star Wars Legion game and a 30mm Cygnar Swordknight for Warmachine.
Here they are with the 10mm scale Aquan Planetfall models.

These should be great for any modern to future small scale miniature game.

More 10mm Scale Planetfall Buildings

Here are some more Firestorm Planetfall 10mm scale buildings. They will be perfect for Horizon Wars and other small scale games too.

There are also these ramps you can use to allow infantry to move from one building to another, and make it look more cohesive.

These buildings are in addition to the previous ones I put together, here.

Aquan Planetfall Forces

Here are all the Aquan Planetfall models I have, painted and ready for action. I also repainted models I did two years ago to match the refined look I've recently done, as listed here. These are made up of the following helixes: two Core, Light Infantry Upgrade, Ground Command, Leviathan, Ariel Ground Attack, Ariel Interceptor, and Terquai Allied Recon.

The previous paint jobs were interesting but lackluster. I realized that the green and blue wavy wash technique was a better background for the models than a foreground, hence the added colours. Here is the original Leviathan post for a comparison.
Here is the original Imzani skimmer post.
Here is the original Sedna Heavy skimmer post.

The original Sirsir support skimmer.
The original Stingray anti-air batteries post is here.

The infantry was alos lightened with a brighter pink drybrush. The original post is here.

Aquan Planetfall - Ground Command Helix

This is the last of the Aquan Planetfall models I needed to assemble and paint, the Ground Command Helix. It is made up of the Malani heavy command barge, two Votari crystals, four Marana recon tanks, and a Grand Company (Officer base, three Sweeper teams, 3 Field Gun teams, and two infantry bases).

The Malani heavy command barge used the same paints as the Aerial Interceptor helix.

Same as the Marana light recon tanks.
All the infantry used the same paints as the Light infantry upgrade.

Aquan Planetfall Light Infantry Upgrade

The Aquan Infantry upgrade is comprised of nine field gun bases, nine sweeper team bases, and three officer bases. They can be added to the core helix for more points.

The field gun bases were primed black. Infantry heavily drybrushed pink and lightly drybrushed light pink with silver on their upper back armor and hand weapons. The gun barrier was heavily drybrushed ivory, lines of GW Beiltan Green wash, and entirely washed with Draknof Nightshade, then a dark and light purple on the lower center middle triangle. The weapon was painted orange and drybrushed bright yellow. The base painted dark brown and drybrushed light brown with tufts of GW grass.

The Sweeper team riders and gun painted as per above. The reptiles painted dark green, then drybrushed light green, then lightly drybrushed mix light green and ivory. Then the eyes and nose globe painted orange and nose globe drybrushed bright yellow.

The officer base painted as per above. The staff painted silver, then the tip painted dark blue and drybrushed light blue.

Aquan Planetfall - Aerial Ground Attack Helix

These are the models in the Aquan Planetfall Areal Ground Attack Helix. Two Kalari ground attack heavy gunships and three Comand ground attack gunships. I painted them the same as my Aerial Interceptor Helix.
