There were many inspirational scenery and models at Warrior's Weekend. Here are some pics.

Warriors Weekend 2019

Held at the Bay Street armories was the second Wounded Warrior gaming convention, with proceeds going to the charity Pilgrim Bandits. I participated last year and this year I helped set up, run demos, and helped tear down.
They had an upstairs area as well as another room for role playing games.
Here was the table I gave Horizon Wars demos on. I played one game with someone and ran two people through two games. A moderate success.
I also played one demo of "Small Sci-fi", a working title for a local home brew 15mm near future miniature game. Simple rules but complex strategies with them. Superb scenery.
On the second day I ran Gaslands. Unfortunately nobody participated but did have interest. Also sold $5 worth of cars for the Pilgrim Bandits charity.
I did play a demo of Star Wars Legion, which was quick with simple rules with depth. By participating I also was entered into a draw for a starter box and two boosters...and I won! I'll add them to my painting schedule.
If I am in town I will participate next year.

Attack-X 2018

Attack-X is a gaming convention in Kamloops BC, Canada. It has mostly miniature gaming but also board and roleplaying.
The numbers are not in but the friends I traveled there with recon around 350 people attended the weekend. Below is a picture of the Warhammer 40k area with around 90 people. Where I played in the Guildball tournament, with 12 participants, was on the right hand side.
On Friday I played a friendly timed game, Saturday was the tournament with four games, and Sunday had a fun doubles game with six non-captain players each side. Mine are the purple painted Union models.
The painting competition had many participants and many prizes and raffles. One of my friends won two categories and best in show with the red Warhammer 40k dreadnought on the right.

There were other games going on. The most participants, after Warmachine/Hordes with around 36 participants, were tied with us at 12 participants: Age of Sigmar, X-Wing, and Flames of War. Below was a friendly Star Wars: Legion game.
Speaking of Star Wars, a friend and I played a demo of the second edition of X-Wing that just came out.
The 40k players had some great displays of the models they were playing.

Below is a scratch built Ork dirigible.
Myself and my friends would like to come back again next year.

Warriors Weekend 2018

Warriors Weekend is a two day gaming event that benefits the charity Pilgrim Bandits which helps veterans. Board, role-playing, and tabletop gaming were all featured. It was held at the Bay Street armories in Victoria BC.  It is quite the facility and the officers mess was open for drinks as well!

Here is where the majority of the action happened.

I was mostly in an eating mess in the upstairs that had an X-Wing tournament.

It also had a homegrown rules game with interesting rules and fantastic scenery.
On Saturday I tried to generate interest for a Guildball tournament but many other games took president for people. It ended up being a showcase with two games. Interest was generated though so perhaps more will play this great game.
I then broke out Gaslands for a first try with the fellow I played Guildball with and really like the simple rules and fun decision making.
On Sunday I ran a Malifaux tournament with four players and had a fun experience against different crews using different mixes of models.
If another one was organized I would participate and run more games.

Edit: around $1200 was raised for Pilgrim Bandits. Bravo to all organizers and attendees!

NexusCon 2016

NexusCon was a demo-centric game convention planned by the owners of the Game Nexus website. Their focus was on providing a smaller convention with no tournaments so local tabletop fans could try out different miniature, board and role playing games. Tickets were limited to 40 persons and started from 10am till 9pm at night on a Saturday.
I myself demoed for Guildball and taught the game to seven persons over five games.

The day started off slow perhaps because of other non-gaming events, like Greekfest just down the street. The initial low attendance was a good opportunity to meet the other demo people and chat about each others game including demos to each other. At around the 3pm mark attendance started increasing exponentially. Final attendance was in the 30-40 person range.

I did demo to more people than I have at local gamestores but that was also due to the longer hours. Overall it was a productive day getting the word out about Guildball and meeting new people.

LANtasy 2016 and Guildball Demoes

LANtasy is a games convention in Victoria BC Canada. It hosted mostly computer LAN players but also miniature, roleplaying and board gamers with some vendors. It was held at Pearks recreation center. This convention was started by the organizers of the Gottacon LAN people when Gottacon staff put future conventions on pause.

For a medium sized convention it was run well although I never took part in any of the scheduled events. Instead I was there to demo the game Guildball Saturday and Sunday.
Myself and a friend ran through at least eleven people. We even got in a game each with a fellow's Engineers and it was only his second and third game ever. Many more people passed by and were interested.
There were people playing tournaments for Warhammer 40k, Warmachine/Hordes, Kings of War, X-Wing, and even Blood Bowl! The roleplayers and boardgamers had the small side section (to the right).

The LAN side, as mentioned, took up half the room.
Next year they plan on taking all the space, thus doubling the footprint.
I did manage to get in an Infinity demo while I took a break. I have some minis from when I tried out the second edition of the game and have played one third edition game but played it badly. Now I am more familiar with the rules after playing the demo.
Look forward to next year and perhaps will run a tournament for Guildball! We shall see.

Gottacon 2015

Gottacon 2015 took place in the same hotel as last year, the Victoria Conference Centre attached to the Fairmount Empress. I had a great time overall and bumped into a lot of gaming friends from near and far.
The good thing, regarding food, was that there was several food trucks this year nearby. The bad thing about the food trucks is that you couldn't bring the food purchased there into the convention space.
The dealers space was on the main floor of Crystal Gardens, across from the main convention centre. The board and miniature gaming was located on the upper level.

Included with the dealers were many local organizations, such as the SCA and Heroes Inc.

My first and only Friday event was a doubles tournament for Malifaux with short timed games and no more than three models and 25 soulstones per team member. Very fun and good to see the same players and a few new ones.

After Malifaux, since we ended early, I went to the Nerdesque show by Geekenders called Star Wars: A Nude Hope. For those of age, here is a trailer. They are hilarious and have some good acting chops. An excellent parody.

Saturday had myself and a friend demo a game called Guildball. We participated in the kickstarter and the final product is due to ship soon. We had many interested people asking about it but only one had the time for a demo. We also met someone in town who also participated in the kickstarter. The intention is to conduct more demos around town.

This fantastic Warmachine Cygnar Stormwall caught my eye. What a great and unique paint scheme!

I also played a boardgame called Kingsport Festival. It is a Lovecraft mythos themed game in which you are cult leaders trying to get the biggest and best cult by gaining power and expanding your influence.

AFter supper I played the Malifaux role playing game, Through the Breach. I really liked the character creation and we had a great bunch of roleplayers that made the experience even better. I might pick this one up.

On Sunday, the only event I participated in was the day's Malifaux Tournament. I had two great games. I won one and lost one. This is another reason why I like this game because if its still fun losing then you have a great thing on your hands. Here is the crew I lost against. Great paint job! I ran a Perdita crew.

Well, i'll be back next year. Great fun and great gaming friends. For a smattering of the costumes of Gottacon 2015, head to my normal life blog here.
