Small Scale Islands

From the Pirates of the Spanish Main Wizkids/GallForce9 line is the six small island set. It came prepainted but it was improved by some drybrushing with dollarstore paints.

 I will be using it for age of sail miniature games (Fighting Sail or Trafalgar or Black Seas) with my Pirates of the Spanish Main ships.

 I can also use it for my Dystopian Wars models.

Stormtroopers

With my two Star Wars Legion Basic sets, I had a lot of Stormtroopers to paint. I did an assembly line format using the paints determined in my test run.

 I made each seven trooper squad distinctive with the bases and the squad leader shoulder armour.

All bases made with Basius plates.

Emperor Palpatine Hologram

The Emperor's Hologram was included in some Star Wars toys a decade or so ago. I saw them in Cherry Bomb toys in downtown Victoria for $1 and couldn't resist. I used some light blue drybrushing on it to bring up some highlights.

The scale is perfect as any hologram of the Emperor should be a little bit bigger than the real thing. The hologram could be used for a multitude of things, including statues if painted right.

Running Press Bat-Signal

The Running Press Bat-Signal was purchased because I made a mess of the Knight Models Batman Miniature Game one I put together. I not only prefer the Running Press bat signal but it also turns on!

I will add weathering to the new signal to make it well worn.

Blue Ice Spikes

Miniature Market sells may interesting and cheap, small terrain items. One of these is the Blue Ice Spikes. It will go well with many of my miniature games, no matter the scale.

All I did was drybrush three different colours of light blues to bring out the detail, as they were molded in blue transparent plastic.

European 10mm City Terrain

I have no idea who made this scenery but I picked it up really cheap and goes great with my 10mm Horizon Wars miniatures.

Plasticraft Old Town Building

The Plasticraft Old Town Building is great for both my Malifaux and Batman miniature games.

Plasticraft Urban Furniture

The Plasticraft Urban Furniture will be a great addition to my Malifaux and Batman miniature games. They went together quickly and smoothly.

Plasticraft Large Platform

The Plasticraft Large Platform will be perfect for Star Wars Legion as well as other games requiring a platform. A simple felt covering will change this from future tech to a hill.

The scale is perfect with the 40mm Legion figures. I can also see its use for 10mm gaming as well.

It even has areas that can be used for internal rooms.

Plasticraft Quarantine Zone Outer Walls

The Plasticraft Quarantine Zone - Outer Walls is a neat terrain set that I picked up cheaply over a year ago. It will fit in with many game settings including Malifaux (for which it was designed), Star Wars Legion, and the Batman Miniature Game.

It went together well once I figured things out and looks nice. Multi-level terrain always adds extra fun and tactics in miniature games.

End of 2019 and beginning of 2020

So 2019 was an interesting year for games. There was a downswing of RPGs played but lots of board games.

The RPG played the most was a 5e alteration of the Pathfinder Legacy of Fire setting with 15 sessions played. Also dipped my toe into The Expanse with a 2 session intro game and one session of the very funny It came from the Late, Late, Late Show RPG with 1 session.

A whopping 112 games were played, many of them shorter length ones. Crib took the lead with 13 games played, then No Thanks! with 10, Schotten Totten with 9, Kingdomino 7, Ucher 5, and Wingspan 5. Other games were played 4 or less times. New games played that I want to play more were Battle at Rokugon, Battle of Five Armies, Betrayal At Bauldur's Gate, Everdell, Freedom, and Numbers.

The only game related book read was the Osprey Fighting Sail game book. I looked through my Wizkids ships and they are a perfect scale for this game. Even my wife is interested after she read the Partick O'Brian books this year.

For miniature games, 51 were played. They are: Battletech, Gaslands, 29 of Guildball (Brewers, Cooks, 11 Morticians, 15 Ratcatchers, Union), 6 of Horizon Wars, 7 of Malifaux (Asylum, Bandit,    -Freikorps, Half-Blood, 2 of Guilty, Mercenaries), a local ruleset called "Small Sci-Fi", 2 of Star Wars Legion, and 4 of an X-Wing Campaign.

I will be away here and there in 2020 so miniature and RPGs will be more limited. I do hope to paint and play more of Star Wars Legion, Guildball, Malifaux, Batman Miniature Game, and Gaslands. Also hope to paint up the dead game miniatures I have like Firestorm Armada, Dystopian Wars, and Uncharted Seas.

In 2019 I painted only 36 28-40mm scale models but a whopping 140ish 10mm scale models. 56 items of terrain for 28-40mm models and 22 items for 10mm models. I hope to paint more 28-40mm scale models and there are several that are close to completion.
