Enlightened - Callimachus Time Dilatation Orb (waterlined)

This is one Dystopian Wars seagoing Callimachus Time Dilatation Orb made by Spartan Games for the Covenant of Antarctica faction. The land version will be painted later. Under Wayland Games' third edition of the game, these ships do not have "count as" versions yet. They were painted the same s the Kepler light carrier. It comes with two types of inserts.

Enlightened - Aristotle Battleships

These are two Dystopian Wars Aristotle battleships made by Spartan Games for the Covenant of Antarctica faction. Under Wayland Games' third edition of the game, these ships are "count as" Hypathia battleships. They were painted the same s the Kepler light carrier.

As wave riders, the upper superstructure can be removed to show they are partially submerged. 

Enlightened - Thales Corvettes

The Thales corvettes are a good close in defense for ships of the Covenant of Antarctica and were made by Spartan games for Dystopian Wars. Under Wayland Games in the 3rd edition of the rules, they are just called corvettes for the Enlightened faction. Most capital ships can have up to three of these attached to them. They not only add one defense die each to the ships they are attached to, like escorts, but as corvettes also add one die each to assaults. They were painted the same s the Kepler light carrier.

Enlightened - Plutarch Destroyers

Here are my four Spartan Games Plutarch destroyers for Dystopian Wars, which in the Wayland Games 3rd edition "counts as" a Germain Zybek for the Enlightened faction. They are drone ships. They were painted the same s the Kepler light carrier.

Enlightened - Fresnel Gunship

Here are my three Spartan Games Fresnel Gunships for Dystopian Wars, which in the Wayland Games 3rd edition "counts as" a Copernicus heavy cruiser for the Enlightened faction. For the large central ball turret lens I used Arcane blue and then wiped my finger over it, so it would still have the metallic show through on the edges. It reminds me of a lighthouse lens. They were painted the same s the Kepler light carrier.

Enlightened - Hippasus Battle Cruiser

 The Hippasus Battle Cruiser, for the Covenant of Antarctica, made by Spartan Games. With the third edition for Dystopian Wars, now owned by Wayland Games, it is currently a "counts as" Lovelace cruiser for the Enlightened faction. I hope Wayland Games makes this a "counts as" for a more robust ship as it is now the same as the Kepler Light carrier I have. I think it deserves better than that, especially as a bigger model with more science do-dads.

Being a waverider ship, the top comes off to signify this. In the Spartan Games second edition models, they added extra detail on the hull when the upper hull is removed.

Enlightened - Pericles Drone Fleet Carrier

The Pericles Drone Fleet carrier is a large supplier of fighters in the Dystopian Wars game but in the 3rd edition it is a "counts as" Descartes. It was painted the same scheme as the Kepler Light Carrier.

Enlightened - Diophantus Assault Carrier

The Diophantus Assault Carrier is a large ship for the Dystopian Wars Covenant of Antarctica faction. In the 3rd edition it is a "counts as" Hypathia. It was painted the same as the Kepler light carrier.

It is also a wavelurker and can hide its profile below the waves and go under other ships.

Back to Gaming

 Recent days were action packed for miniature and detailed board gaming, since before the pandemic. Firstly I played Guildball with a friend and although we didn't have time to finish it, because we had not played in over a year, we still had great fun. Although Steamforged is no longer making models or updating rules, Longshanks has begun the process of providing player errata and plans to move to more corrections and such.

At another friends place we had both taken the day off and started games early till supper. First we played the Middle Earth Strategy game by Games Workshop. It is not rank and file but more robust skirmish game. It was fun, fast, and had easy to understand rules. I'd play it again.

We then played two boardgames: SpaceCorp 2025-2300 and Men of Iron Agincourt intro scenario in the Tripack box, both by GMT. They were also good boardgames that I would play again, in particular SpaceCorp 2025-2300 because of the three era of space exploration and expansion.

Enlightened - Plato Cruiser

For the Enlighted faction of Dystopian Wars, the Plato Cruiser is a mainstay of Enlightened fleets.  It counts as" the Lovelace cruiser in the current edition of the rules until the new version of the model comes out. I painted the six that I have and as squadrons can be one to three ships. It was painted the same way as the Kepler Light Carrier.

It has two particle beamers, F/P/S and A/P/S with an aetheric broadside and seeker torpedo salvo.

Enlightened - Kepler Light Carrier

For the Enlighted faction of Dystopian Wars, the Kepler Light carrier can get aircraft where you need it on the high seas. It is an official "counts as" Plinius Support carrier in the current edition of the rules, until the newer model comes out. I painted the four that I have and as squadrons can be one to three ships, there is variety in the amount of squadrons I can put on the field of battle.

I modified the paint scheme used on the Diogenes Torpedo Sub. It was painted with a black primer, rough drybrushed with dollarstore Craftsmart gunmetal, drybrushed with dollarstore Silver. Wood decks painted Craftsmart Coca Bean and drybrushed Decoart yellow. Metal then lightly drybrushed with Privateer Press Radiant Platinum. For the WW1 dazzle camouflage I used Craftsmart Teal Sea and Craftsmart Sailing Sky. The bronze parts were painted PP Rhulic Gold and entire model washed with GW Nuln Oil. Cygnar Yellow used on turret ends and engine funnels painted PP Necrotite Green and same paint drybrushed on caterpillar propellers.

This ship has the wavelurker ability, allowing it choose at the start of its move to travel under other ships and floating objects. In the rules it could remain submerged, reducing its attacks to those with the torpedo trait and making it harder to be damaged. Hence the acrylic template and removable top for the ship to put in the middle of it. It does mean that it cannot use its seeker rockets though not launch its four aircraft tokens.

Iron Dwarves - Expeditionary Fleet

This is it! All my Iron Dwarves for the Uncharted Seas game at 3840 points. There is enough to have a civil war or training exercises between Iron Dwarves! Its nice to have one entire faction done.

For large size models: Two Chainmail Flagships, four Forge Battleships, Guardian citadel, and two Bellows airships (taken in units of 1 or 2).

For medium size models: six Anvil heavy cruisers (units of 2 to 3 or with Hammer Cruiser units), four Piston Ram cruisers (taken in units of 2-3), nine Hammer cruisers (taken in units of 2-3), and four Armoury trop ships (taken in units of 2).

For small size models: six Chisel destroyers (taken in units of 2-3), twenty Mortis frigates (taken in units of 2-4), six Belcher submarines (taken in units of 1-2), and six Kraken submarines (taken in units of 1-2)

I got these painted fairly quickly by going with a simple paint scheme that looks good on the tabletop. Now I can play games with them, against one another, to get the rules right. Next faction up to paint/repaint will be the Dragon Lords!

Frostgrave Resumes!

 For my first miniature game since fall of last year, for the second stoppage of gatherings, myself and a friend resumed our Frostgrave campaign. The scenario "Silent Tower" was used and although I got one more treasure my friend got five more experience points. He did lose a model from permanent death. I also successfully casted the Summon Construct spell for a large construct. Quite a beatstick in combat so far but we will see for future scenarios.

Iron Dwarves - Reinforcements

I got some more Iron Dwarf models to enlarge my faction for Uncharted Seas. I also now have enough to have civil wars between Iron Dwarves, so that could be fun.

They were painted the same way as my other Iron Dwarves.
