Dystopian Wars - Overview and Background

Dystopian Wars is a tabletop naval and air fleet combat game made by Spartan Games in the UK. It is extremely similar in gameplay to Firestorm Armada, which I have posted about here (for setup) here (for order of play) here (for stat cards) here (for movement) and here (for combat). They are similar enough that one could play one and then another with very little extra time to learn the differences.

The rulebook also has rules for land and air combat. In addition they have an alternative land and air rules, in a more strategic theme, provided for free on their website here with more downloads here.

The Dystopian Wars wiki page goes into great detail here. Since it does such a great job, I will not add to it here.
I will say their rulebook Is very well organized and has clear explanations of the rules with pictures.

Spartan Games heavily supports this game, more so than Firestorm Armada and Uncharted Seas. With the starter box fleets I picked up on sale and the Miniwargaming web store mega sale, I have a very respectable starting point to play the game.

That is my only major problem with the game. The fact that because this and other Spartan Games products are so playable with just a starter, few people buy more. That means stores do not get any movement in stock. As well the two sales in game stores I went to had Spartan Game stock at half off because the people who wanted it and bought the starters but did not buy more. In Victoria BC there are none that carry Spartan products.

An excellent and detailed (at 38 minutes) is below from the Beasts of War website.
There is a lot of videos from other people on youtube here.

Take a chance on this game and get your local game store involved. Support your local game store too.
